I assume you are referring to the fact that he was recently extradited to the US.

And the timing is suspect given the new "anti-Mexico" US admin coming into the power tomorrow. I guess this is Mexico's olive branch.......jaja.

el Chapo is headed to NYC to be tried there because their courts have a lot of experience in complex cases.
You are right Bob. Supposedly it was timed so that Obama would get credit for getting him to the USA.

Let's see if I have this right....

MX sends Guzman to the US to be fed, clothed, housed and free medical care for 30 years and this is a favor to the US?

US has the death penalty, I think kidnapping convictions are automatic death penalty. Right?

Mexico does not have a death penalty and will only extradite with an agreement with the USA that there will be no death penalty no matter what the crime calls for.

The US requested extradition as Guzman is a Mexican citizen, unlike the shooter of the consular official in GDL.  No favors, no sending, as all law enforcement in the US that had charges pending against him, wanted him.  The other case I mentioned, yeah the Mexican government dumped him back into the US immediately.
The private prison industry in the US wants all the bodies it can get.....good for business.

And since they nabbed Guzman, drug related violence has decreased, right? This is all a joke. The whole drug war is a frikking joke.

Yes, it is a joke for sure. At least Chapo won't be getting special treatment or escaping anytime soon. He'll be locked away in a Supermax and will barely see the light of day.

OR.........maybe he'll be the next contestant on Celebrity Apprentice??

His capture and disposition of incarceration has about as much effect on the drug business, as picking up a handful of sand, has on the appearance of a beach on the Pacific.
Just feel good news for the DEA and their like bureaucracies, in both countries. Who cares if he gets special treatment? Much ado about nothing.
Maybe they cut off the head of a snake, but there are 10,000 snakes, out there, of equal caliber.

You have to start somewhere. Pablo Escobar feared extradition to the US prison system more than death.
