Whole house voltage regulator?

The place I'm renting has one & I'm curious as to what it would cost to have one installed? All I've heard is that it's pricey but how pricey?

Didn't know whether to put this in the DIY/Mechanical section or here but it's definitely not a DIY project. Thanks for any info.

The house you're renting has one and you want another one? I am missing something here, as ususal. I am gussing that the house you are renting does not have one and hoping that that is what you meant to write. I am just guessing, but I think a whole house voltage regualtor can run around 4-5,000 pesos. I also am just guessing, but I do not believe it can be removed and taken with you when your lease is up. Far less expensive to buy a few volatage regulators, which can accept six to eight lines each for less then 500 pesos each. Two or three should do the trick and they are yours forever to take whereever you go. That is what I have done for five years and it works just great. Zoey

Sorry, I was unclear. I'm only renting for a few months until I buy. When I buy a house, I'd like to have one.

Carry, we have had whole house regulator's for the past 4 years. I say regulators because most houses here have 220 power, but have 2 circuts of 110, therefore you need 2 reulator's. We purchased them in Ajijic for aprox 9000.00 pesos installed. We moved earlier his year and had no problem reinstalling the rgulator's.

The houses are 110, however some places have 2 lines of 110 power coming into the house, thus 220. This is not however what we think of as 220 NOB ie: to run a dryer ect. What happens here in many cases is that in a 2 story house you will have a 110 line down and a 110 line up. I have had times in the past when all my downstairs lights ect were working, and nothing up, or visa-versa

Marty, my house has 220 for the water pump and the pool pump. Put two 110v lines together and what do you get? 220! Actually here it's closer to 240 most of the time.

David, you are right, the electricity will jump between about 87 and 140 on any given day. It get's worst during the rainy season.
